As the founder of August Society, I’ve enjoyed exploring Singapore’s stunning coastline in search of hidden gems perfect for family adventures and tired of the usual spots. It’s time to explore Singapore’s lesser-known beaches and waterfronts, where family fun meets peaceful nature. From kayaking at Sembawang Park to tide pooling at Changi Beach, each spot offers a unique adventure that’s perfect for making lasting memories. So grab sunscreen, pack a picnic, and let the family escape these secret coastal treasures!
1. Paddle Away at Sembawang Park
If you’re seeking a peaceful escape to the water with your family, Sembawang Park is like a little hidden oasis that feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Here, you can rent kayaks or bring along an inflatable one and enjoy the calm, serene waters with your kids. It’s the perfect place to unwind, breathe in the fresh air, and connect with nature.
Extra tip: If your little ones are new to kayaking, it’s always a good idea to start with a short paddle in the shallow waters. This gives everyone a chance to get comfortable and have some fun without feeling rushed.
2. Discover Nature’s Magic at Changi Beach Park
Changi Beach Park is one of my personal favourites for introducing the kids to the wonders of marine life. At low tide, the shoreline is like a natural treasure hunt, filled with sea stars, tiny crabs, and other fascinating critters. Every step reveals something new, making it so much fun for the whole family.
Extra tip: Be sure to bring a pair of water shoes for the kids—this way, they can explore all the little tide pools safely without worrying about sharp rocks or shells. And if you’re feeling adventurous, pack a magnifying glass to get a closer look at the critters you find!
3. East Coast Park: The Classic Reimagined
Yes, East Coast Park is a classic, but it’s so versatile that you can always discover something new. Start your day with a scenic bike ride along the coast, and once you’ve worked up an appetite, have a beachside picnic as the kids splash around. The best part? There’s always something for everyone—whether it’s building sandcastles, taking a dip in the water, or simply enjoying the great outdoors.
Extra tip: Don’t forget to pack a kite—there’s nothing like flying a kite on a breezy day while the kids play on the beach. It’s simple, but always a hit!
4. Escape to Lazarus Island
If you’re dreaming of a beach day that feels like a mini-vacation, Lazarus Island is the place to be. A short ferry ride whisks you away to this tranquil paradise, where you can enjoy crystal-clear waters and soft, white sand. It's peaceful, unspoiled, and a great spot to recharge as a family.
Extra tip: Lazarus Island is a little remote, so it’s a good idea to pack all your essentials—water, snacks, and sun protection. There aren’t many amenities on the island, so coming prepared will make the experience even more relaxing.
5. Family Bonding at Constant Wind
Looking to mix adventure with a dash of fun? Paddleboarding at Constant Wind is the perfect family activity. Balancing on a paddleboard while gliding across the water is a joyful experience—especially when you’re with loved ones. Plus, the instructors here make it so easy for everyone to get involved, no matter your skill level.
Extra tip: If you’ve never tried paddleboarding before, start with a lesson or two. Once you’ve got the basics down, it’s so much easier to enjoy the ride and truly relax!
Turn Family Time into an Adventure
These hidden coastal gems aren’t just places to visit—they’re experiences that bring families closer, spark curiosity, and create lasting memories. So pack up the sunscreen, grab the kids, and head out to explore Singapore’s best-kept secrets. Adventure is waiting, and it’s just a short drive or ferry ride away.
Sandy toes, salty hair, and endless memories—your family’s next adventure starts here!
Stay Awesome,
