Got the Travel Bug? Five amazing blogs you need to be reading now!

Amazing, entertaining, fearless female bloggers you definitely need to check out!

Travel blogs you should read

Isn’t it great we have the interwebs, my friends? You can see the world without even leaving the comfort of your own desk chair. And though now there are many Toms, Dicks and Harrys out there thinking they can be travel writers just by starting a blog, there are actually some pretty amazing, talented travel bloggers out there writing about their incredible adventures. Here are some of my favourites, and yes you will start seeing a trend (fearless, fabulous female shaking of the shackles of her hum-drum life and escaping into the lure of wanderlust, maybe?) Check them out and let me know what you think:

The Everywhereist

The Everywhereist was one of the first travel blogs I started reading, and I fell in love with Geraldine DeRuiter from the get-go (not in a creepy Fatal Attraction kind of way, but in an I-can’t-stop-eating-these-cupcakes way. She also talks about her love of cupcakes a lot, which is awesome.) After being laid off from her job, and since her husband had to travel so much for work, she decided to tag along on his trips and start a blog so he could remember all of their adventures together (for those of you in the tech / digital marketing space, her husband is Rand Fishkin, the founder of Moz, which is a fantastic SEO resource). A few years later, her quirky, sarcastic recounts of their exploits still brighten my day. If you can’t appreciate the absurd, then don’t read this blog.

Bacon is Magic

With a blog named “Bacon is Magic”, Ayngelina Brogan is a girl after my own heart. Not only is she Canadian (like me, woo!), she traveled solo through South America for over a year after realizing her old life, career and love was not fulfilling her. Her tales of self-discovery centered on food (nom, nom, nom) are just delish. And her new love is a chef, so you know we’re just going to get more of the good stuff.

Legal Nomads

Jodi Ettenberg is an ex-lawyer who quit her job in 2008 to see the world. Almost seven years later she still has no fixed home base and manages to make a living from her laptop as she journeys from place to place. She’s an amazing storyteller, and her blog shares her adventures in food and travel with gorgeous photography as well. Bonus that she usually spends her winters in Southeast Asia.

Paper Planes

Alana Morgan packed up her life and moved to Chiang Mai, Thailand over three years ago and shares her life adventures on her blog. She focuses life abroad rather than just tourism, so her tips and stories centre on experiences an expat instead of just a visitor. She includes regular contributions from expats around the world so you learn about what life is like in places like Beijing, Prague and Cape Town.

The Great Affair

Candace Rose Rardon is a travel writer and sketch artist, which means that her blog isn’t just full of marvelous stories, but all of her posts are also illustrated with gorgeous watercolour sketches. This girl is really talented. Her website is part blog, part portfolio, and all eye-candy. Go check it out.
